In preparation for the March 15th rally and march for Peace, the Portland Peaceful Response Coalition will once again be running their sign-making factory this afternoon, and phone bank volunteers will be at work this evening to boost the turnout for what may be a last-ditch effort to stop the US war on Iraq.

The sign-making factory will be in operation at 4507 N.E. Fremont in Portland today, Sunday, March 9th, starting at 1:00 p.m.. The phone bank will be held at the Neil Kelly Offices at 804 N. Alberta Street (at the corner with N. Albina Avenue) from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. this evening.

"Bush and Blair plan to unleash the dogs of war in less than ten days, but the world is united in a courageous effort to prevent this catastrophe,"; said Mikel Clayhold, a volunteer with the PPRC. "We've invited the local peace community to join with us today in our efforts to prepare for the next big peace march here in Portland." The colorful "NO WAR" and other peace signs made at the PPRC factory have become a familiar sight around Portland as peace marchers take them home for display in front windows or as yard signs. "We just need to make more, and of course we know that the thousands of people who will come out on March 15th will be making their own signs, and bringing the signs that we've made for each of the marches since October," said Clayhold.

The phone bank this evening will be working through the phone lists of the PPRC and the East Timor Action Network, two groups that are members of the March 15th Alliance for Peace and Justice, the informal coalition planning the Saturday peace march.
