A Defense That Could Be Obsolete

By RICHARD BERNSTEIN, New York Times, December 1, 2010

NEW YORK — Was it entrapment? The question naturally arises in the case of Mohamed Osman Mohamud, arrested last week after demonstrating, the authorities allege, an unbridled enthusiasm for blowing up thousands of people in Portland, Oregon.

Why Wikileaks is Good for Democracy - Bill Quigley, Dec. 1, 2010

“Information is the currency of democracy.” Thomas Jefferson.

Since 9-11, the US government, through Presidents Bush and Obama, has increasingly told the US public that “state secrets” will not be shared with citizens. Candidate Obama pledged to reduce the use of state secrets, but President Obama continued the Bush tradition. The Courts and Congress and international allies have gone meekly along with the escalating secrecy demands of the US Executive.

By labeling tens of millions of documents secret, the US government has created a huge vacuum of information.

Thanks, Bradley Manning and WikiLeaks! NOW WE HAVE TO LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD!

The revelations about the US war and occupation in Afghanistan come at time when Congress is voting on $33 billion for this bloody, criminal war. Public opposition has delayed the vote. But it's going to take a lot more public outcry to stop this war. Use the links below to contact the President and your representatives in Congress! Tell them that the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld war has now had its Pentagon Papers moment ... and Obama and the Democrats must now end the killing, they must end the hemorrhaging of lives and treasure. CONTACT CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENT TODAY! Tell them to END THIS WAR, BRING THE TROOPS HOME NOW!

While the New York Times and other US commercial media soft-pedal the revelations, it's our job to make sure our elected officials and the Obama Administration get the message loud and clear: END THIS WAR! Call your representatives and call the White House today! And tell your friends, your family, your neighbors, we have another chance to end the Black Ops, to end the drone attacks, to bring the troops home now and begin the work of reparations to heal the devastation our country has wrought in Afghanistan.

In an international act of piracy and murder in international waters, the Israeli navy intercepted, boarded, and opened fire on humanitarian activists on a flotilla of ships attempting to deliver humanitarian supplies to the Israeli-blockaded Palestinian Gaza Strip.

According to news reports, Israeli commandos killed as many as 19 humanitarian activists on board one ship, and have abducted all 700 passengers on board the six boats composing the flotilla who are in the process of being sent against their will to Israel for arrest and/or deportation.

"This is shocking and tragic, but sadly, it is not unusual for Israeli policy," said Mazen Malik, of the Palestine Arab American Association, "I think Palestinians are in general, unfortunately, used to this kind of action, which is why it is not a surprise to us." "Our hope is for the US, which has the most leverage with Israel, to push Israel more towards recognizing the rights of the Palestinian people, and engage more seriously with the peace process."
